Tarot! Renaissance Symbols, Modern Visions
Exhibition at The Morgan Library & Museum

Conceived in two parts, this double-gallery exhibition explores the origins of Tarot in Renaissance Italy and its ongoing relevance as a source of inspiration for artists in the twentieth and twenty-first centuries.
The first part of the exhibition, Renaissance Symbols, focuses on the origins of the three earliest surviving decks from the fifteenth century, which were commissioned by the Dukes of Milan. It examines the rich court culture from which the cards emerged, the development of the cards’ imagery, and how that imagery became the basis for later divination practices.
Modern Visions, the second part of the exhibition, takes as its starting point the legendary 1909 Rider-Waite-Smith deck conceived by mystic Arthur Edward Waite and illustrated by artist Pamela Colman Smith, tracing the influence of this deck and others on later practitioners and the imagery’s adoption by people like André Breton, Leonora Carrington, Remedios Varo, Jess, Niki de Saint Phalle, Betye Saar, and Kerstin Brätsch. For these artists, Tarot offered an alternative to the strictures of modernist aesthetics, allowing them to explore other universes and imaginative possibilities.

Poem District Walking Tour
A PROJECT OF THE POETRY SOCIETY OF AMERICA
Join us on Sunday, June 28, at 11:00 a.m. for a walking tour of the Poem District, the Poetry Society of America's newest public art initiative. The Poem District is an open-air anthology of poems installed on the walls and windows of buildings in the neighborhoods surrounding the Poetry Society's storefront on Smith Street. On this roughly one-mile walk along Smith and Court streets, beginning at Atelier Ariana (478 Smith Street) and concluding at the Poetry Society (119 Smith Street), attendees will view seven installations, read the poems and learn about the poets, and take in the vibrant small business communities of Boerum Hill, Cobble Hill, and Carroll Gardens.
About the Poem District
The Poem District is an ambitious new public art project that aims to place dozens of poems on the walls and windows of neighborhood buildings, making poetry part of daily life for residents and visitors as they commute to work, walk home from school, shop for groceries, or meet up with friends. Sites include bookstores, retail shops, community gardens, cafes and restaurants, and local civic and cultural organizations. The project is supported by the NYC Department of Small Business Services through the Public Realm Grant program and the Destina Foundation.

This class is the heart of bodycraft. From start to finish we create a seamless, fluid journey in and out of the floor, alternating between dance cardio and bodyweight strength training. This is a full body experience, with dynamic movement meant to take up space and express. We close with a cool down and nourishing meditation. You will leave feeling cleansed and energized, and more connected to yourself.

Jessie Kilguss Breathwork
A session begins with a brief conversation about any issues you are dealing with or aspects of your life you would like to focus on. This will help you set an intention for the session. I’ll guide you through a period of active breathing set to music (approximately 30 min) that will help move your energy, emotions and parts of yourself that may feel stuck. This is an opportunity for you to move your attention out of your mind and into your heart. After the active breathing, there is a period of rest (approximately 10 min), which allows the energy you have just moved to integrate.
